Future of ‘Veep’ in Maryland in question after series gets $6.5M in California tax credits

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – HBO’s “Veep” has filmed in Maryland for four years, but its future in the state is in question after the series scored $6.5 million in California film tax credits.
The California Film Commission announced Tuesday that “Veep,” which stars Julia Louis-Dreyfus, is one of four series selected to receive tax credits for relocating production to California.
HBO spokeswoman Cecile Cross-Plummer says executives haven’t decided where “Veep” will produce its fifth season, but they’re exploring their next steps.
Karen Bell Hood of Maryland’s Department of Business and Economic Development, which includes the state film office, say officials haven’t heard from HBO about a move. She says “Veep” received $13.9 million in tax credits in its first three seasons, but the state hasn’t pledged tax credits toward the next season.
