McCluskey speaks out on conflict of interest

A downtown Dartmouth councillor is having her say about reports she filed a clean up order about a house that’s been undergoing renovations for several years.

Gloria McCluskey says she did not file the complaint, and has the email from the person who did.

She says they called her saying nothing was being done, so she emailed bylaw asking “would you like to have this place next door to you?”

McCluskey says she sat on the case when the complaint came before bylaw, adding it was her that moved they give the homeowner a 30-day extension.

“When they found the email that I wrote, they complained about a conflict, so we gave them a second hearing, without my presence,” she told the Sheldon MacLeod Show.

A Nova Scotia supreme court judge threw out the clean-up order on Friday, saying the city demonstrated procedural unfairness and incorrectly interpreted unsightly premises legislation.
