Man faces several weapons charges after parking lot argument escalates

Halifax Regional Police say a 27-year-old man from Bedford tried to assault another man with a knife, and then run him down with his truck Tuesday night.

Sgt. Gerard Gibbons says it happened at about 7:15 p.m. The two men were arguing, and then the situation escalated.

“He pulled a knife on the victim, and there was a little foot pursuit that occurred,” Gibbons said.

When the victim got away, the suspect got in his truck, and tried to hit the man in an Almon Street parking lot.

He missed him, but hit a nearby building, damaging the truck before fleeing the area.

Police caught up with the man at his home on Waterfront Drive in Bedford a few hours later, and charged him with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, possession of a weapon and two counts of assault with a weapon.

“Both the knife and the vehicle were used as weapons,” Gibbons said.

Police say the men did not know each other before the incident and the victim wasn’t injured.

The man was set to appear in Halifax provincial court Wednesday morning.
