Police continue to investigate Tanya Brooks’ murder

Halifax police say they’re still investigating the 2009 murder of Tanya Brooks.

Monday marks the sixth anniversary of the murder. Brooks’ body was found in a trench beside St. Patrick’s Alexandra School on the afternoon of May 11, 2009.

Police were able to trace her movements until about 9 p.m. the night before, and now they’re asking anyone with information about the murder to call police or Crime Stoppers.

They believe Brooks knew her killer or killers, and that there are people who know what happened to her.

Saturday afternoon, there will be a march on Gottingen Street to stop violence against Aboriginal women. The march will start at the Mi’Kmaq Native Friendship Centre at 12:30 p.m. and end at the police station with a short ceremony.
