Nova Scotia government tables results of electricity consultations

HALIFAX – A review of Nova Scotia’s electricity system has found support for long-term rate stabilization and predictable electricity rates.

The findings are based on year-long consultations with more than 1,300 experts, stakeholders and members of the public.

The report tabled Thursday in the legislature says Nova Scotians would like to see an increase in the consumer’s ability to manage electricity costs, as well as stronger performance standards for Nova Scotia Power.

It also concludes that residents would like more accountability and transparency in setting electricity rates, and they want the government to support renewable energy resources.

Energy Minister Michel Samson says the results will inform the government’s plan for the electricity system, which is currently underway.
