Search ends for man swept out to sea at Peggy’s Cove

RCMP say they have concluded their search for a man swept into the sea at Peggy’s Cove.

The Mountie’s Underwater Recovery Team battled rough sea conditions and large swells before calling off the operation to recover the body of 25-year old James Donald Quattocchi.

Quattocchi’s mother Caroline told the Ottawa Citizen he was standing on the rock below the iconic lighthouse taking a picture when a sudden swell hit.

His girlfriend Brittany Smith said he slipped and lost his footing a bit, and before he could stand, another wave came and swept him away.

Caroline Quattrocchi told the Citizen she and Smith hope to set up a crowd funding appeal urging authorities to improve safety measures and warnings at Peggy’s Cove.

And RCMP are asking anyone to contact Tantallon detachment if they find any items in the area that may assist with the missing person investigation.
