Game 7 is a go between Mooseheads and Wildcats

It will be another nail-biter for Mooseheads fans Tuesday night.

Yesterday at the Scotiabank Centre, by halfway through the second period, the Herd had a 6-0 lead over Moncton. The Cats were able to claw back, but not enough as the Moose forced a Game 7 with their 7-5 victory.

Winnipeg Jets prospect Nikolaj Ehlers scored twice and added two assists. Brandon Vuic also had a pair of goals for Halifax, while Vincent Watt, Philippe Gadoury and Timo Meier added the others. Danny Moynihan chipped in with three assists.

Eric Brassard turned aside 43 shots for the win in goal.

Alex Dubeau started for Moncton, but was pulled after kicking out 10-of-15 shots in 21:41. Jason Rioux went the rest of the way and made 17 saves while also picking up an assist.

Voice of the Mooseheads John Moore said goaltending could be key for the Cats in the series final.

“Alex Dubeau, it’s a little bit of a mystery, in my opinion he struggled in Games 1 and 2, then seemed to find his form and his confidence began to grow,” said Moore. “He played extremely well in Games 3, 4 and 5, and yet here again for the second time in the series, replaced by the backup Jason Rioux.”

Moore added the team is no stranger to heading into Game 7 as the underdog, they were able to upset Shawinigan with an overtime goal by Nikolaj Ehlers to win the first round of playoffs.

Colour commentator Steve Carr said if they’re going to put down the Wildcats, they’ll have to do it in Moncton.

“Home ice hasn’t been necessarily friendly to them, so it will be interesting to see how they play in their own barn,”  said Carr.  “Halifax has proven that they can win in Moncton and they can win on the road.”

For those who aren’t able to make the roadtrip to New Brunswick for the final, John Moore will have the game on News 95.7.
