Halifax police investigating violent break and enter

Halifax police are investigating a break and enter that happened early Sunday morning in the North End.

Police say it happened at about 1:30 a.m., when a homeowner heard his front door being kicked down.

Police say three black men wearing masks entered a home in the 3600 block of Acadia Street. One man with a gun held the residents of the home in one room while the other two men — one of whom had a knife — went through the house, taking electronics.

Then the three fled in the homeowners car.

Police have yet to find that car — a silver 2010 Honda Civic with the Nova Scotia license plate FMP 127.

No one was injured, and Halifax police Staff Sgt. Bill Morris says he does not believe this was a random incident.

“This isn’t a normal thing where people go kicking doors in with firearms trying to break into a home unless they know the people or know what they’re looking for,” he said.

Police were not called to the home until nearly an hour after the incident. Morris says that aspect of the incident is still under investigation.

“I don’t know how long the people were actually  in there — that could have been part of the delay,” he said. “We’re not sure why we didn’t get the call right away.”

Morris says if anyone sees the car, they should stay away, and call 911. He asks anyone with information to call police or Crime Stoppers.
