Mooseheads face rival Wildcats in Round 2 of playoffs

The Halifax Mooseheads and Moncton Wildcats will hit the ice for Game 1 of their second round playoff matchup tonight.

Moncton finished the regular season second overall, Halifax finished 12th.

Mooseheads spokesperson Scott MacIntosh told News 95.7, although there is a gap between the two teams in the standings, there are some similarities.

“We have a really big top line with Ehlers, Meier and Moynihan, and they have the big one with Barbarshev and Garland,” said MacIntosh.  “If you can shut down one of those lines, than the other team has a really good chance.”

The Herd have racked up a combined 32-points in the postseason from Nikolaj Ehlers, Timo Meier and Danny Moynihan, but voice of the Mooseheads John Moore said don’t forget about the strong goaltending.

“Eric Brassard has a tremendous series against Shawinigan, and they’ll be going to him again expecting the same kind of performance,” said Moore.

He added the team is riding high after the Game 7 overtime series win against the Cataractes, and Moore expects this series could also be a long one.

“I foresee this going 6 games, perhaps 7,” he said.

The Herd open the series on the road at the Moncton Coliseum at 7 p.m. tonight.

Games 3 and 4 will be on home ice next Tuesday and Wednesday, individual tickets go on sale today at 10 a.m.

John Moore will have all the games on News 95.7.
