Mooseheads coach doesn’t expect team to be underdogs

The Halifax Mooseheads and Shawinigan Cataractes will hit the ice tonight for game one of their best-of-seven first round playoff series.

Head coach Dominique Ducharme told News 95.7, the team has faced a lot of adversity this season.

“There were a lot of injuries, and guys in NHL camps,” said Ducharme.

As a result, younger players had to step up and log more ice time in key situations, and he thinks that has made the team stronger.

On paper it might seem like a David and Goliath match up – with the 5th place Cataractes taking on the 12th place Mooseheads, but Ducharme said the guys are ready and he expects a tight series.

“We know they have a good team, they have some skills up front, they have a really solid goalie,” he said.  “But we’ve been matching up well with them this year.”

The Herd’s communications manager Scott MacIntosh agreed.

“If it’s anything like the regular season series, it could be a high scoring affair, but of course the playoffs is a different animal,” said MacIntosh.  “The teams split their season series 1-1, with the road team winning in each case.”

The puck drops at 8:30 tonight, John Moore will have the play-by-play on News 95.7.
