Walk Halifax aims to put pedestrians first

Animal rights advocacy, human rights advocacy, but did you know there’s also pedestrian advocacy?

Walk Halifax co-organizer, Bill Campbell, said he got the idea for the city’s soon-to-be pedestrian advocate group during last year’s 100in1day festival.

“The big picture is just to put the pedestrian in the forefront of peoples’ minds when someone’s developing a regulation, doing a maintenance project,” he said.

Their mission is simple: to make Halifax safe, comfortable and interesting for pedestrians.

“And certainly the health and wellness side is another major topic or focus.”

Walk Halifax’s first meeting gets underway this Wednesday, and Campbell said he’s already received plenty of support.
