Mooseheads rally to defeat Titan after frightening start to 2nd period

A frightening experience for over 6,000 Mooseheads fans as last night’s game was stopped early in the second period.

About 2 minutes in, just after Timo Meier tied the game, Brett Crossley was hammered into the boards from behind by Titan defenceman Elijah Francis.

The rookie forward lay face down motionless on the ice for about 10-minutes while medical staff attended to him.

The Cole Harbour native had to be wheeled out on a stretcher.

The Mooseheads tweeted preliminary examination showed Crossley has movement in his extremities.

Later, an update on the team’s website said the injury wasn’t as bad as it appeared and that Crossley did not suffer a spinal injury but did sustain a lower body injury.

They say he will be re-examined this week.

The Mooseheads were able to recover from the scare, defeating the Acadie-Bathurst Titan 7-4.

The Herd trailed until early in the third period when Sam Hunter scored the go-ahead goal, the first of his QMJHL career.

First star Nikolaj Ehlers picked up a goal and four assists, Danny Moynihan had two goals and an assist and Timo Meier picked up a goal and two assists.

The Mooseheads will be back in action at Scotiabank Centre at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 6.
