Police continue investigation into Mic Mac Mall threat, release three from custody

Halifax Regional Police have released three people from custody as they continue to investigate a potential threat made against Mic Mac Mall yesterday.

Officers are not saying what the nature of that potential threat was, but Staff Sgt. Don Moser said he believes the tip came through Crime Stoppers.

“We do believe that there was a possibility of somebody perhaps attending that location and an act of violence perhaps being carried out,” he said.

After taking three people into custody and questioning them, Moser said officers released two men and one woman last night, believing they had nothing to do with it.

“The investigation is still continuing,” he said. “We’re trying to determine the source of the threats as well as their legitimacy, and of course, anyone with any information we’re asking to contact us as well.”

Moser said it’s not believed there are any continued threats to Mic Mac Mall, but they are still following leads to determine if there are any other suspects.

“Our job is sort of to be as thorough and balanced with it as possible,” he said. “Obviously, balancing public safety with that, so as we progress and as we learn more, that may involve additional interviews, but we’re going to go obviously where the information takes us.”

The mall had shut down yesterday during the investigation but will be open again today at 9:30 a.m.

In a release issued by the mall’s general manager, Chris Keillor, last night, he said he will not be commenting on details of the police investigation, as it is still ongoing.
