NS Health Minister dismisses fired arbitrator’s belated ruling

Tensions are rising after arbitrator James Dorsey handed the province’s largest union the Clerical bargaining unit days after he’d been fired from his position.

Nova Scotia Health Minister, Leo Glavine, told Global News Dorsey has no authority to be making any more decisions surrounding the controversial Health Authorities Act.

“Dorsey is finished,” he said. “We have to now finish the job that Mr. Dorsey failed to do for the province.”

President of the Nova Scotia Government and General Employees Union, Joan Jessome, said if the government goes against Dorsey’s ruling, her union will take it to court.

“I know that whatever action they take […] to take either Clerical or Health Care away from the NSGEU when we’ve been awarded by an arbitrator they put in place, will require some further court action by this union.”

Glavine told Global News more information will be made available this morning at today’s Cabinet meeting.
