Former deputy prime minister Anne McLellan named Dalhousie chancellor

HALIFAX – Dalhousie University has named former deputy prime minister Anne McLellan as its new chancellor.
The school in Halifax says the former Liberal politician will be installed as its seventh chancellor on May 25.
McLellan is originally from Nova Scotia and is the chairwoman of the Dalhousie Advisory Council.
The Edmonton-based former politician got her arts degree from Dalhousie in 1971 and graduated from its law school in 1974.
McLellan served four terms as the Liberal MP for Edmonton Centre from 1993 to 2006, serving as minister of multiple portfolios, including public safety and emergency preparedness, health, justice and natural resources.
McLellan takes over from Fred Fountain, who was chancellor since 2008.
