Canadian Forces member arrested in connection to Rehtaeh Parsons’ edited Wikipedia page

The Defence Department says military police have made an arrest in the investigation into changes made to the Wikipedia page for Rehtaeh Parsons.

A military spokesman says the investigation started Oct. 6 and the arrest was made Tuesday at CFB Shearwater.

Major Yves Desbiens issued a statement saying no charges have been laid.

He says the identity of the military member is protected by the Privacy Act.

According to CTV, the suspect is the father of one of the young men charged in the Parsons case.

Desbiens added allegations of unauthorized use of the department’s information system are still under investigation by military police.

The investigation began after someone used a Department of National Defence computer made changes to the Wikipedia page for Parsons, including adding the word “attempt” after every mention of her suicide.

They also changed a direct quote from the girl’s father, Glen Canning.
