Hall of Famers, NHL broadcasters and musicians prepare for Halifax hockey celebration

Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada and Rogers Hometown Hockey are hitting up Halifax from February 11th to 15th.

Several events are planned throughout the region and as a part of the hockey celebration there will be concerts, celebrity luncheons and live broadcasts.

The official opening ceremony gets things started at 6 p.m. Wednesday night at the Halifax Forum.

The will be followed by a skate with the Lord Stanley himself and a concert featuring the likes of the Barra MacNeils, Corb Lund, Rich Aucoin and Buck 65 on Thursday.

A celebrity luncheon will take place on Friday the 13th, special guests include Don Cherry and Ron MacLean, Cassie Campbell-Pascall and local Joe DiPenta.

Sportsnet Central anchor and Pictou County’s own Ken Reid will taking part.

Reid told News 95.7, with all the events, Haligonians are going to be busy.

“There’s going to be some outstanding players around, some Hall of Famers will be mulling around town,” said Reid.  “It’s going to be a blast.”

On Valentine’s Day, the main Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada action moves to the Emera Oval where there will clinics and public skates, along with a live broadcast of The Rick Howe Show.

On Sunday, Ron MacLean will host a live broadcast from the Sportsnet Mobile Studio at Cole Harbour Place where the public is invited to an outdoor game viewing party for the Pittsburgh Penguins vs. Chicago Blackhawks game.

News 95.7’s The Sheldon MacLeod Show will also be on location.
