Nova Scotians brace for biggest storm of the season

Get out the salt, snow boots, shovels — and storm chips.

The biggest storm of the season is set to bring some major winter weather to the Maritimes, starting tomorrow morning.

“The winds could be gusting upwards of 110 kilometres an hour and snowfall amounts could be approaching 30 centimetres plus,” said News 95.7’s meteorologist Richard Zurawski.

He said the snow will be changing to rain later in the day, and temperatures will be rising then falling again, making for messy road conditions.

“During the worst part of the storm, in the mid-morning to early afternoon, it’s probably best to just stay off the roads,” he said. “This a major storm now. It looks like it’s not just your average winter storm, but it’s going to be one of the major winter storms of the season.”

Zurawski said Nova Scotia likely won’t be getting hit as hard as our Maritime neighbours in New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island, and said we can be really thankful we aren’t situated more south.

Boston and New York, he said, can likely expect double the amount of snowfall we’re getting.
