Icy weather coming to Halifax

It looks like the Emera Oval won’t be the only place to try out your skates today.

Following yesterday’s storm and this morning’s mild temperatures, we are in for some cold, icy weather later this afternoon.

“Everything’s going to freeze solid,” said News 95.7’s meteorologist, Richard Zurawski. “Once the temperature hits the freezing mark, which should be sometime between three o’clock and five o’clock, things are going to be like a skating rink.”

Zurawski said that cold weather could also bring some significant winds and a chance of flurries.

“The wind’s going to pick up this afternoon as well, it’ll be gusting to about 70 clicks.”

We can expect the temperature to drop to about minus 13 degrees later tonight, and Zurawski said that coldness will stick around for a few days.

“And then we get into a bit of a cold snap where the temperature’s not going to get much above minus eight or nine degrees.”
