Nor’easter bringing mix of weather to Halifax region

The big storm has made its way to Halifax, but you’ll likely won’t have to take out those snow boots and shovels just yet.

News 95.7’s meteorologist Richard Zurawski said people in HRM will be waking up to a cold rain, then the temperature is going to warm up around noon, then cool off again with a chance of flurries later today.

“If you wait five minutes, the weather’s going to change,” he said. “It’s one of those days where it’s going to get really warm and then get really cold and then get really windy, and then the wind will stop and the rain will stop, and then we get to showers and flurries, so it’s up and down.”

He said in total, the region will be getting about 40-50mm of rain throughout the day.

“The rain is going to taper off more than stop, so we’re going to switch over to showers and flurries this afternoon, and we’ll get plummeting temperatures, so we’ve got sort of a rollercoaster effect happening.”

According to Zurawski, the region could get some strong winds, but he said they’ve likely already reached their peak.

“Wind gusts, they were around 50-60km an hour, they’re actually going to go down a bit now.”

He said the wild weather should even out tonight, and added that tomorrow is shaping up to be sunny and cool.
