Man charged after fight with police

A man faces charges including assaulting a police officer and possession of stolen property after he allegedly resisted officers attempting to arrest him at the corner of Kaye Street and Young Sreet on Monday.

Police say they got a call from a man who had had his phone stolen, and saw it for sale online.

The man set up a meeting to buy the phone, and police showed up instead.

When they went to arrest 28-year-old Jedidiah Fortune, they say he began to fight with them, and when they used a Taser to subdue him, he kept fighting back.

Eventually back-up came in and police were able to take Fortune into custody, recovering the stolen phone.

He is due to appear in Halifax provincial court Tuesday to face charges of resisting arrest, obstruction, possession of stolen property, attempting to disarm a police officer, uttering threats, two counts of assaulting a police officer and four counts of breaching a previously imposed court order.
