Second accused in prominent child pornography case set to stand trial in Halifax this morning

The second accused in a high-profile child pornography case that’s made international headlines is expected to enter a plea today in Halifax youth court.

The 19-year-old man from Eastern Passage faces two child pornography charges after a photo of him having sex with a 15-year-old girl who was vomiting out a window was taken three years ago.

After the photo was taken in November 2011, he allegedly shared it through social media.

The victim’s parents say their daughter endured months of bullying after the photo of her spread around, before attempting suicide in April 2013.

She died after being taken off life support a few days later.

The first accused was handed a one-year conditional discharge in Halifax youth court a week and a half ago.

The hearing for the second accused that begins this morning is scheduled to last five days.

There is a court-imposed publication ban that protects the names of both the victim and the accused.
