Sentencing due in prominent child porn case

HALIFAX – The father of a teenage girl who was the victim in a prominent child pornography case in Halifax says he would like to see a young man who pleaded guilty in the case get jail time when he is sentenced today.

The man, who can’t be identified under a publication ban, says he plans to attend the sentencing of the 20-year-old man who pleaded guilty in September to one count of making child pornography.

But the father says he has been told by the Crown attorney in the case that the man could get probation or a suspended sentence.

The Crown dropped a second charge of distributing child pornography against the accused, who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act because he committed the offence when he was 17.

Based on an agreed statement of facts read at the September hearing, the 15-year-old victim, who is deceased, went to the accused’s house to drink alcohol in the fall of 2011.

The Crown said the accused took a photograph later that night of a male youth having sex with the girl while she was vomiting and that she did not give her consent to the photo.
