WWI exhibit in Halifax gets boost from government

One hundred years since World War One began, “The Road to Vimy” is a new exhibit at the Citadel Hill Army Museum, paying tribute to the brave Canadian soldiers who fought for our freedom from 1914-1918.

Regional minister Peter MacKay said the federal government is supplying the memorial with $93,750 through ACOA’s business development program.

“One hundred years later, this exhibit commemorates the victory of the Canadian expeditionary force, and it tells the story of those who fought with valour, and secured that strategic ridge.”

For Col. Bruce Gilchrist, it’s something that’s very important.

“We have less than 90,000 veterans left,” he said. “Their average age is about 91, and they’re dying at 500 a week, so this will be the last anniversary where we can expect large numbers of veterans to attend.”

“The Road to Vimy” exhibit is now on display, and visitors are welcome to the museum on Remembrance Day.
