New assault allegations surface against Ghomeshi

New assault allegations are surfacing against Jian Ghomeshi from his time at York University in the early 1990s.

Jim Hounslow told the Toronto Star he was groped by the former radio host when the two were students and working together for the York Federation of Students.

Hounslow told the newspaper he was waiting for an elevator with Ghomeshi when he grabbed Hounslow’s genitals and fondled him through his jeans.

The university could not find a record of any complaints against the former CBC host, but admitted they don’t keep those records from that long ago.

Ghomeshi was working on a political science thesis and held a paid position as the president of the student group during the 1990-1991 school year.

Hounslow, who now works at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights in Winnipeg, said he and other people on campus viewed Ghomeshi as a “sexual predator.”

Another former York student told the newspaper about a meeting in 1988 in which female students were warned by their residence advisers, who are older students, about Ghomeshi’s behaviour with women.

Kerry Eady said the residence advisers told the students they had reports of Ghomeshi hitting women and one report of him choking a woman in a stairwell.

Eady said the young students were warned to be careful in co-ed washrooms and in stairwells.

There are no official records of these alleged attacks.

Neither Ghomeshi nor his lawyers responded to the Toronto Star’s questions about the incidents.

The CBC has announced they have hired employment lawyer Janice Rubin to lead a third-party investigation into the allegations against the broadcaster’s former employee.

Nine woman have stepped forward alleging they were hit and choked by Ghomeshi, and Toronto police have opened an investigation after three women registered complaints.
