After 35 years with the Chronicle Herald, well-known columnist Marilla Stephenson will be handing in her notepad to begin work with the oneNS Coalition — something she said is exciting, but also a bit overwhelming.
“Well, I’ve been with the Herald for an extremely long time and I’ve loved my work, I’ve really enjoyed it. And, all of a sudden, things are changing dramatically for me, and it’s going to be a big change.”
Stephenson said the opportunity came after the Herald offered a handful of long-time employees early retirement packages.
“I hadn’t fully decided about the Herald’s package, but I started a resume and started making a few calls in the private sector side of things actually,” she said.
Government spokeswoman Michelle Perry said Stephenson is well-suited for the job, given her journalism background.
“She’s worked for a long time to better Nova Scotia and to advance the issues here, and I think she sees this as a different way to do that, going forward.”
The main function of the oneNS Coalition is to put in place the goals outlined in the Ivany report.
