Charges laid in city bus gun incident, police continue to investigate

Just hours after Halifax Regional Police got a report of a man carrying what appeared to be a rifle near the Scotiabank Centre, they responded to another call after a gun was left on a city bus near Scotia Square.

Staff Sgt. Barb Saunders said the gun was taken off the bus and the man was arrested a block over on Argyle St.

“As of this morning, a 25-year-old man is being charged with numerous weapons offences related to that call, and he’ll be appearing in court sometime today.”

Halifax Police Chief Jean-Michel Blais said they’re still looking into the earlier gun-related report, and checking whether there is any connection between the two calls.

“The two incidents occurred in the same general vicinity, but there’s nothing at this point that leads us to believe that there is anything linking the two,” he said. “But that won’t be determined completely until such time we’ve completed our investigation on both cases.”

According to police, no threats were made, and no shots were fired in either case.
