Mainland Common could be next Halifax off-leash dog park

City staff have come up with a list of short term solutions for an off leash dog park in the city.

A report to council this week will recommend that a temporary park be established in the Mainland Common area in a spot south of the artificial turf fields that is currently fenced in.

The park would then be expanded next year to include a nearby wooded area.

Other areas on the list include the Halifax West High School field and Northcliffe Park.

Councillor Jennifer Watts told Metro Halifax this would be a short term fix while a city wide off leash strategy is looked at.

An area adjacent to Africville Park was deemed to be too small, it lacked appropriate parking, and was too close to the historic site.

Council has imposed a deadline of December 31st to have a new off leash park up and running.
