Legal fees reduced in NS Home for Colored Children case

The lawyers for former residents of the Nova Scotia Home for Colored Children have had their legal fees reduced.

Ray Wagner says he hasn’t read Judge John Chipman’s full decision, but confirms it has reduced his firm’s fees from their asking price of $6.6 million, to $5.78 million.

That’s 17 per cent of the total settlement of $34 million.

Wagner says the firm hasn’t decided whether to appeal the ruling, but he is concerned it could have negative consequences in terms of access to justice for Nova Scotians.
