NS police watchdog investigating two separate weekend arrests

Nova Scotia’s police watchdog — the Serious Incident Response Team — is taking a look into two weekend arrests.

Late Friday night, a 33-year-old man received a broken orbital bone after being chased by police and taken down in Musquodoboit Harbour.

Police heard complaints of a drunk driver in the area, and the man was also allegedly in possession of a firearm.

A few hours later, officers responded to a report of a robbery in Dartmouth and arrested a 38-year-old man in connection with a break-in at a sports store on Windmill Rd.

That suspect was later treated for a broken wrist.

The Serious Incident Reponse Team (SiRT) investigates all serious incidents involving officers in the province, regardless of whether there is an allegation.

Both cases are still being looked into.
