Wanted teen thought to be out of province

RCMP in Halifax believe the 17-year-old boy they’re looking for in connection with a shooting at the end of September has left the province.

A Canada-wide arrest warrant was issued for *the suspect on October 2.

RCMP spokesperson Greg Church won’t say why investigators believe the suspect has left Nova Scotia.

“Information would have come in to them, that would have taken them into different directions, and one of those directions they’re perusing is outside Nova Scotia,” he said.

On September 26, RCMP and Halifax Regional Police responded to a report of gunshots in North Preston.  An 18 year-old man and 20 year-old woman were walking on the side of the road when a vehicle drove up beside them and reportedly fired shots. The woman was shot in the arm and treated in hospital.

*The suspect is charged with attempted murder, breach of probation and numerous weapons-related offences.

*Note: Police originally the released the name and a photo of the suspect, made with respect to an order issued by a judge, pursuant to section 110(4) of the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA). This was the second time this order was issued in relation to the suspect. The order authorized members of the Criminal Investigation Division to release the photograph to the media for the purpose of requesting the public’s assistance in locating the suspect. Under provisions of the YCJA, the order remained in effect for five days.
