Dalhousie men’s rugby club in hot water over hazing allegations

It’s an age-old tradition that’s fading fast into ways of the past.

Divisions 1and 2 of the Dalhousie Tigers men’s rugby team are banned from playing games, wearing team uniforms and booking university space during an investigation following a hazing complaint from a university employee.

According to a statement on the school’s website, the team will also not receive any university funding during the review.

Under the school’s Hazing Policy, the investigation has to be completed within 60 days.

The release from the school says the university “will not tolerate behaviour that humiliates, disrespects or threatens the safety of individuals in our community.”

The release also notes the comment section is closed “out of respect for the individuals involved.”

Earlier this month, the men’s rugby team was put on probation for a separate initiation incident.

The news of the team’s suspension is a flashback to nearly two years ago when the Dalhousie Tigers women’s hockey team was forced to forfeit the rest of their season after a hazing incident.
