Mike Duffy expenses trial to start in April, run through June

OTTAWA – Suspended Sen. Mike Duffy will go to trial starting in April, a court ruled today.

The court has set aside 41 days for the politically charged case.

The trial is scheduled for April 7-May 12 and June 1-June 19.

The proceeding comes just months before the next scheduled federal election in October 2015.

Duffy faces 31 charges, including fraud, breach of trust and bribery.

The last charge deals with a $90,000 cheque Duffy got from Nigel Wright, Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s one-time chief of staff, to reimburse the Senate for challenged expense claims.
