TV Blog Buzz: ‘HIMYM’ pineapple mystery solved; ‘The Simpsons’ kill a character

By The Canadian Press

The answer to a long-running mystery that befuddled hardcore “How I Met Your Mother” fans has finally been revealed.

There’s a fancy box set for the show coming out this week and on the cover is an image of a pineapple.

Longtime fans may remember an early episode — entitled “The Pineapple Incident” — in which Ted wakes up after a drunken night out to discover the eponomous fruit mysteriously placed on his bedside table.

A deleted scene included with the box set revisits the story behind the fruit and BuzzFeed has posted it online, along with an animated GIF recap of the whole back story.

“The Simpsons” executive producer Al Jean promises the show still plans to kill off a character during next week’s 26th season premiere and it’s no cheap stunt — that Springfield resident will stay dead.

Jean talked about the upcoming season with Deadline and hedged an answer when asked about the show’s future.

“We could last two more years, maybe four, maybe more,” Jean said. “No one has talked to us about wrapping the show.”

HBO’s “Girls” seems to be one of those love-it-or-hate-it shows. Star Adam Driver, who plays the enigmatic boyfriend to Lena Dunham’s lead character, isn’t sure which camp he’s in. In an interview with E!, he admits he hasn’t seen a single episode of the show.

But that might change thanks to a deal he struck with Dunham.

She hasn’t seen the “Star Wars” movies — Driver will star in the new “Star Wars: Episode VII” — and if she finally screens the classic first film, he’s finally watch “Girls.”
