Police issue 3 more tickets against school bus passers

Halifax Regional Police say for the third time this week, drivers were ticketed Thursday morning for passing a school bus with its lights flashing.
That makes a total of eight tickets handed out this week.
Const. Pierre Bourdages says an officer with the police’s traffic unit monitored the intersection of Hammonds Plains Road and Killarney Drive.
“Within a very short, 30-minute monitor, they observed three cars passing stopped school buses exhibiting flashing red lights, and also gave two other tickets to motorists using their cellphones at that same location,” he said.
Bourdages urges drivers to follow the rules, even when it seems there’s enough time to pass.
“Remember, children tend to run … they’re very happy to get off the bus, or sometimes get on the bus, so they will run. And they may not look. The consequences could be fatal,” he said.
He also asks drivers who see someone pass a school bus with its lights flashing to report the driver’s licence plate number, so police can follow up.
