Peter Stoffer to re-offer or retire before NDP caucus this morning

Sackville-Eastern Shore MP Peter Stoffer is set to break some personal news in Ottawa this morning.

Rumours are swirling, but Stoffer hasn’t confirmed or denied which way today’s announcement will be going.

He said in a voice-mail he will be making the call on his political future with New Democrat leader Tom Mulcair at 10 a.m. AST.

“I’m making the announcement about whether I stay on in politics to re-offer, or to retire,” he said. “And so I’ll be making that decision before our caucus office in Ottawa.”

Stoffer, who was born in the Netherlands, is the Official Opposition Critic for Veterans Affairs and has been in office since 1997.

He is also former NDP critic for several portfolios, including Fisheries and Oceans, Shipbuilding, National Defence, Seniors, Canada Post Corporation, Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, and Amateur Sport.
