Audit finds over $400,000 missing from church

Charges have been laid after money was discovered missing from a Halifax church.

According to The Chronicle Herald, a meeting was held last night to bring the congregation of St. Andrews United up to speed on the investigation into the disappearance of $420,000 from the church’s accounts.

In a letter to parishioners, church officials said they called for an audit of the books after irregularities were discovered and that’s when the missing money was discovered.

It’s believed that the money went missing over a 4-year period.

The church said an employee was suspended immediately and has since resigned, and police said an unnamed woman has been charged with fraud over $5,000 in connection with the case.

St. Andrews United has made headlines over the past year after two suspicious fires, the first in May and the second in July in which a pile of cardboard was set ablaze inside the church.
