RCMP use drone to find family lost in woods

RCMP say they used an Unmanned Aerial System to help find a family who  got lost in the woods while hiking.

Police say two adults and a 17-month-old child went in the woods off the Highway 107 extension around 4:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon, and called police around 4-hours later after becoming disoriented.

The drone was used to locate the hikers in a heavily wooded area northeast of Topsail Lake.

Halifax Regional Police used a K9 service dog to find the family and walk them out to Sheiling Lane in Dartmouth at around 2 a.m. Sunday morning.
