Post-secondary students return to Halifax

Life is returning to normal on the seven post-secondary campuses that call Halifax home, and students from all over the world begin classes this week.

About 32,000 students are expected to enroll in the many programs and courses schools in the city have to offer, and according to stats from the Association of Atlantic Universities, they will spend about $156-million off campus.

Over the weekend moving trucks were a hot commodity as students moved into their accommodations and municipal garbage trucks will be busy hauling away all of the garbage that has piled up over the weekend.

Halifax Regional Police will once again be increasing their presence in and around the schools as ‘Operation Fall-Back’  returns for another year.

The campaign aims to reduce noise complaints, property damage and public intoxication in the residential areas surrounding Halifax universities.

In addition to higher visibility, the program will see police work with community groups, university officials and student representatives to deal with problems through education and enforcement.
