ST. JOHN’S, N.L. – A subsidiary of Crown-owned Nalcor Energy has selected Valard Construction to install infrastructure for the Labrador to Newfoundland transmission link for the $8.5 billion Muskrat Falls hydro project.
The Labrador-Island Link Partnership says Alberta-based Valard, a Quanta Services company, is to install about 1,100 kilometres of 350 kilovolt overhead high voltage lines running from the Muskrat Falls generating facility in central Labrador to the Avalon Peninsula.
The installation of the power lines is expected to be completed by the summer of 2017.
Valard will be responsible for all construction aspects of the project including management of right-of-way clearing, geomatic services, installation of concrete foundations and tower assembly.
Jim O’Neil, president and CEO of Quanta Services, says it’s the largest single transmission project ever awarded to the company.
