Union president says new transit branding is waste of money

Halifax’s public transit authority is getting a makeover to match the city’s “bold” new brand, but not everyone supports the re-branding.

Rick Howe asked the president of the Amalgamated Transit Union, Ken Wilson, what he thinks of the new facelift.

“(It’s) a waste of money, for lack of better words,” he said.

Wilson said he’s concerned the buses will lose their uniform look during the updating process.

“I like the fact of having our fleet all look the same,” he said. “I think it’s professional looking, so having one bus or five buses or 20 buses with Halifax Transit and the rest with Metro Transit, it’ll look a little mismatched.”

Over the next year, they city plans to put the Halifax Transit branding on 70 of the authority’s 300 buses.

The whole transit fleet — including ferries and Access-a-Buses — probably won’t be getting the fresh look for another few years.
