Man taken to hospital after collision on Highway 103

The views may be beautiful, but Highway 103 has been called one of Canada’s most dangerous roads, and one of Nova Scotia’s deadliest.

RCMP Cpl. Scott MacRae said in an email officers arrived on scene last night at around 6 p.m. where two cars had collided into each other on the 103 near Mahone Bay.

MacRae said the accident happened between exits 10 and 11, and one of the drivers, a man, was airlifted to hospital in serious condition.

The other driver, a woman, was also taken to hospital, but her injuries are non-life-threatening.

RCMP officers are still looking into the cause of the collision, as the investigation continues.

For years, nearby residents have been petitioning for the twinning of Highway 103 to improve the safety and efficiency of the road.

Just earlier this month, the government announced a $16-million project to add an interchange to the 103, which is set to get underway later this summer.
