Many Maritimers still in the dark after Arthur’s visit

HALIFAX -Tens of thousands of people across the province are still without power after post-tropical storm Arthur swept through the Maritimes Saturday.

Nova Scotia Power spokesperson Neera Ritcey told News 95.7, 140 crews all over Nova Scotia have been working since early this morning to restore power to the remaining customers who have been left in the dark.

“Line crews, tree crews and our damage assessors have been, and will be, working throughout the day today to restore the majority of the remaining customers,” said Ritcey.

Ritcey said western Nova Scotia was hit the hardest, and they are doing their best to restore everyone’s power as quickly as possible.

Some will see power today, but others could be in the dark until Tuesday or Wednesday.

About 93,000 NB Power customers are still in the dark.

All New Brunswick government offices in the Fredericton area are closed today due to clean up issues and power outages caused by the storm.

The New Brunswick capital was among the hardest hit areas over the weekend.

Environment Canada had lifted all storm warnings over land in the Atlantic region although Arthur still made its presence known overnight in Newfoundland as it moved out of the province.

Arthur lost its hurricane status just before hitting the Maritimes, but it still packed a brutal punch, with drenching rain and winds that toppled trees and knocked out power for more than 250,000 people.
