Moncton placed second, reporting 39 firearm-related violent crimes per 100,000 population.

Halifax Police Chief Jean-Michel Blais told Global News people shouldn’t be overly concerned because crime has been going down since then.

“The gun crime that is perpetuated here in the city is, for the most part, individuals who know one another and are involved in the criminal element,” explained Blais.

Those numbers were down in 2013.
