Halifax police arrest man accused of stealing car, three cash registers

HALIFAX – Halifax police have charged a man wanted in connection with several brazen robberies and a car theft.

The 37-year-old was arrested Saturday at a home in Lower Sackville hours after he allegedly stole a car from a parking lot while its owner was inside a convenience store.

Police allege the man took off in the car and drove to a grocery store where he made off with a cash register.

No weapons were used in the robbery and police say no one was hurt.

Police allege the same person is also responsible for two other thefts of cash registers earlier in the week, including one at the same store.

The man faces three counts of theft and possession under $5,000, motor vehicle theft, as well as dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and flight from police after he allegedly fled from officers following one of the robberies.

Police say they have not yet recovered the stolen car, but they believe it was abandoned in the Lower Sackville area.
