Two men due in court to face charges of confinement and sexual assault

HALIFAX – Two 18-year-old men accused of confining and sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl are due in court today for a bail hearing.

Doreze Marvin Beals was in court briefly Monday to face 11 charges including human trafficking, kidnapping, unlawful confinement, sexual assault causing bodily harm and gang sexual assault.

Police also laid eight charges against Andre Jerome Gray, including human trafficking, kidnapping, unlawful confinement, sexual assault causing bodily harm and gang sexual assault.

Investigators say the two men confined the girl in a basement in a building in the Halifax-area community of North Preston for two days before she escaped last week.

Officers were called to Clarence Street on Thursday around 9 p.m. to investigate a report of shots being fired.

Police say there was no evidence of a shooting, but they found the girl who alleged she had been threatened and held against her will.
