Domestic assault complaint against RCMP officer puts SIRT on case

The province’s police watchdog is investigating a domestic assault complaint laid against a Bridgewater RCMP officer.

Mounties at that detachment got a call last night from a woman saying her husband assaulted her.

The RCMP contacted SIRT, Nova Scotia’s Serious Incident Response Team, and the officer was arrested. He was released on conditions and is due in court on May 7.

Charges have not been laid, but the investigation continues.
