Nova Scotia gives ‘accelerator’ money to 13 businesses

Economic and Rural Development Minister Michel Samson announced today the 13 Nova Scotia businesses receiving funding through the Global Business Accelerator Program.

Samson says the funding is given to successful applicants who are looking to expand their market and boost global trade.

“These are the kinds of businesses our government is proud to help out,” said Samson. “They are the businesses that understand the importance of trade and expansion into new markets. These companies are taking steps to become more competitive, and are ready to take their businesses to the next level.”

Leo Van Dyk, of the Caledonia-based Van Dyk’s Health Juice Products Ltd., received $19,754 from the Global Business Accelerator Program, and says it has helped grow the small company.

“Programs like the one that we’re talking about today really makes a huge difference […] for our small family business,” he said.

A total government investment of $342,000 was distributed among the 13 businesses, at a maximum eligible amount of $35,000 each.

The program is administered by Nova Scotia Business Inc., on behalf of Economic and Rural Development and Tourism.
