Minutes after the union representing Capital Health nurses said a strike countdown would begin Thursday, the province appointed a mediator to try to bring negotiations to a successful conclusion.
Talks with a conciliator broke off on Monday. The conciliator filed his report on Wednesday, meaning a 14-day strike countdown could begin Thursday. The NSGEU says the strike date would be April 3.
Now the Labour Minister says veteran mediator Bruce Outhouse has been appointed to help negotiate a deal.
“Mr. Outhouse is an experienced mediator, arbitrator and lawyer who has extensive experience dealing with these types of disputes at both the regional and national levels,” said Kelly Regan. “A mediator always brings fresh perspective on the issues and I’m hopeful that Mr. Outhouse will be able to help the parties come to an agreement.”
Mediation will begin Thursday and is not binding.
