Hundreds without power after garbage truck pulls down utility poles

NORTH SYDNEY, N.S. – Nova Scotia Power says nearly 700 people are without power in North Sydney after a garbage truck pulled down two utility poles.

Spokeswoman Stacey Pineau says the truck was driving through the intersection of Blowers and Pierce streets around 7 a.m. this morning when it clipped an electrical wire and pulled down two poles on opposite sides of the road.

She says no one was injured.

Most customers are expected to have their power restored around 5 p.m.
